I started my Work Experience Programme (WEP) hoping that it would expose me to a real-life setting and, through this, give me a clearer picture of what working really entails. Additionally, I hoped that the experience would give me a clearer picture of what I’d like to do in the future and which of my skills will be useful and applicable to real-life scenarios.
Now, after having finished the programme, I can confidently say that I have definitely taken away a lot from this experience. I’ve not only been given the opportunity to learn skills to apply to the marketing and business fields from my mentor; but, also insightful tips to tackling the IB DP. Moreover, through navigating the daily issues that a startup is presented with, I have been able to grow and improve my problem-solving skills, become more flexible and become much more resilient.
I have really appreciated the relaxed, friendly environment that the EdQwest company promotes and enforces. I was able to create my own schedule, listing when I was planning to get what done, which I really learned to take advantage of as it allowed me to become much more independent and hence allowed me to experiment with different ideas and make my own learnings. I also really enjoyed the “team-work” aspect of this experience, I was able to share my ideas with others but also benefit from the insights of my colleagues.
I’m leaving my work experience with a newfound respect and appreciation for startups and small businesses. Additionally, I’m leaving with a much clearer idea of what working is really like and what path I’m planning to take in the future.
A big thank you to EdQwest for welcoming me to the team!
